As we welcome another year here in our beautiful seaside community, I am both honored and excited to write to you as the newly elected President of the Point Lookout Civic Association. Having served as Vice President for the past two terms, being a board member for 10 years, and a resident for 38 years, this community is home in every sense of the word.
Over the past year, the Civic Association has accomplished so much to beautify and enhance our town. We completed several important projects, including more dune grass plantings along the inlet and beach, new beach fencing was added from Glenwood to Inwood Avenue, and we saw the installation of new cesspools plus renovated bathrooms at Civic Beach for our 2026 summer season—improvements that will benefit residents and visitors alike for years to come.
Community safety remains one of our top priorities. This past year, we worked with local officials to add another stop sign at Lido Boulevard and Bellmore Avenue to continue to slow traffic in and out of town. We also partnered with Town of Hempstead lifeguards to host an Ocean Safety Class, which was well attended by children ages 3 through 12, a great way to teach our youngest how to stay safe in the sea.
Our calendar was also filled with wonderful community events. We kicked off summer with our annual “Welcome to Summer Party” where the winner of our 50/50 raffle took home an incredible $5,000! Our summer Bocce League, now in its 3rd year, continues to grow in popularity. Thanks to our league’s success and the generosity of our community, we were able to install new pavers at the ends of the courts, along with new benches and scoreboards—all donated by civic-minded neighbors who care deeply about this town. Next season, the league is adding another night to accommodate the league’s popularity. The summer season concluded with our 94th Annual “Children’s Day”, a beloved Point Lookout tradition. Our annual “Halloween Parade” complete with a visit from everyone’s favorite—Marybeth’s Ice Cream Truck—brought smiles to children of all ages. This event has become a cherished multi-generational gathering. Finally, for the 2nd year in a row, we held a fall blood drive, and we’re proud to say it was another great success thanks to the generosity of our residents.
None of these accomplishments or events would be possible without the dedication and support of so many people. I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our Supervisor Ferretti’s Office, Councilman Chris Schneider, County Legislator Pat Mullaney, the entire Civic Association Board, and most importantly, our incredible community. To everyone who volunteers their time—you are the heart of Point Lookout! Your time, energy, and spirit make all of this possible for which I am grateful. We would love to see even more residents come out, get involved, and share in what makes this town so special.
The Civic Association’s membership has grown to nearly 500 members, a true reflection of our shared commitment to keeping Point Lookout the wonderful place we all get to call home. If you’re not a member, we warmly invite you to join today and become a part of all the great things our town has to offer.
Thank you for your continued support, participation, and pride in our community. Wishing you all the best for the year ahead!
With warm regards,
Mary Goldberg
President, Point Lookout Civic Association
